My scholarship is best understood as scholarship of training, teaching, and application.  This scholarship integrates systems-level consultation with instructional consultation.  Instructional consultation is a consultee-centered model of consultation. Focus is placed on empowering the consultee to work with the given client as well as to assist other clients with similar problems. As an instructional consultant, the practitioner keeps constant several variables while working with the teacher including an awareness of the academic environment, the ability to use process skills (i.e., entry skills), and the delivery of intervention services in the classroom.  Instructional consultation provides direct support to the teacher to in turn aid students in the general education curriculum.

An awareness of the academic environment is integral to the successful practice of instructional consultation. Identifying strategies in developing responsive professional development for teachers, increasing academic content for school psychology practitioners, while at the same time infusing a social justice perspective all inform this work.  Consultation researchers may choose to study process skills, intervention studies or content knowledge development.  As an instructional consultant researcher, my research fits within the realm of facilitating effective relationships between school psychologists and teachers by increasing knowledge of each other disciplines.
